Today we know that <strong>exoplanets<\/strong> are not the exception\u2014they are the rule in the Universe.<\/p>\n<p>But the big question remains the same: how many of those worlds could resemble Earth?<\/p>\n<p>If you want to explore a specific example, you can read about <a href=\"\/tu-articulo-gliese12b\">Gliese 12 b<\/a>, one of the most interesting exoplanets discovered recently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>&#x1f52d; How many exoplanets have been discovered?<\/h2>\n<p>As of 2026, more than <strong>5,500 exoplanets<\/strong> have been confirmed, distributed across thousands of planetary systems.<\/p>\n<p>And the most fascinating part: these are only the ones we have been able to detect with current technology. Kuzuhara<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>&#x1f9ec; What is the probability of life?<\/h2>\n<p>This is where we enter one of the biggest questions in science.<\/p>\n<p>We know that planets exist, and that some are located in habitable zones\u2026 but we do not know how many actually develop life.<\/p>\n<p>To address this question, scientists use a theoretical model known as the <strong>Drake Equation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>&#x1f4ca; The Drake Equation<\/h2>\n<p>Proposed in 1961 by astronomer Frank Drake, this equation attempts to estimate the number of technologically advanced civilizations in our galaxy.<\/p>\n<p>It considers factors such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The rate of star formation<\/li>\n<li>The number of planets per star<\/li>\n<li>The fraction of habitable planets<\/li>\n<li>The probability of life emerging<\/li>\n<li>The evolution toward intelligent life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The challenge is that many of these values are still unknown.<\/p>\n<p>However, thanks to the discovery of thousands of exoplanets, we can now better constrain some of these terms.<\/p>\n<h2>&#x1f30c; La Palma and the search for other worlds<\/h2>\n<p>Detecting exoplanets is only the first step. The next is understanding them.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the telescopes at the <strong>Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos<\/strong> play a key role in characterizing atmospheres and monitoring planetary systems.<\/p>\n<p>From La Palma, astronomers study stars, analyze spectra, and contribute to answering one of humanity\u2019s deepest questions:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are we alone in the Universe?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>&#x2728; Looking at the sky from a new perspective<\/h2>\n<p>When we observe the night sky today, we no longer see just stars\u2014we imagine other worlds.<\/p>\n<p>We see planetary systems, potentially habitable worlds, and environments where life very different from ours could exist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The discovery of exoplanets has not only changed astronomy. It has changed the way we understand our place in the Universe.
