Of volcanic origin and with a great variety of landscapes, La Palma is a very abrupt island. In fact, it is one of the steepest islands on Earth, with abundant vegetation due to a wet and cool weather. Its mountains are filled with Canarian pine, laurel and at the coast, numerous Palm trees. In <\/span><b>2006<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, La Palma became the <\/span><b>first place in the world to declared a \u201cSustainable Tourist Destination\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>exceptional quality of the island\u2019s night skies,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are further protected by a specific <\/span><b>\u201cSky Law\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">designed to minimise light pollution, are the main reason why one of the best professional observatories in the world is situated on the island. La Palma, the first<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.starsislandlapalma.es\/en\/the-island\/the-sky-starlight-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starlight Reserve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Earth (UNESCO), has become one the <\/span><b>premium astronomy sites<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Earth for both professionals and amateurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Must see places<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in La Palma are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/visitlapalma.es\/en\/nature-spaces\/la-palma\/la-caldera-de-taburiente-national-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Caldera de Taburiente National Park<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with a crater 8 km wide. This park has an extremely rich landscape and is botanically spectacular.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/visitlapalma.es\/en\/nature-spaces\/la-palma\/los-tilos-forest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Bosque de los Tilos<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, situated in a narrow valley. It has the largest water resources of the island. It was the first area of \u200b\u200bthe island protected by the Biosphere Reserve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/visitlapalma.es\/en\/municipality\/santa-cruz-de-la-palma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Santa Cruz de la Palma<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, capital of the island. Originally it was a fishing village with lovely houses dating back to the XVI century.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Natural Cumbre Vieja Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a series of volcanoes that form a ridge from the center to the south of the island. Among them are the <\/span><b>San Antonio, San Juan and Tenegu\u00eda volcanoes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Tenegu\u00eda being the latest volcanic eruption in Spain, 1971).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Palma\u00b4s rural and quiet atmosphere &amp; its nature and diverse range of climates and landscapes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/visitlapalma.es\/en\/la-palma\/trails-of-la-palma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">network of walking trails<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which makes the island a paradise for hikers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span> <b>Observatory of El Roque de Los Muchachos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the best observatories in the world.
