The Cabildo of La Palma, through the La Palma Smart Island project promoted by the Department of Digital Transformation, organizes a day on the quality of the night sky and astrotourism, coinciding with the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the Starlight Declaration.

The Councilor for Digital Transformation of the Cabildo of La Palma, Miriam Perestelo, highlights that this event will allow attendees to explore the project and learn about the tools installed on the Island to measure light pollution. In addition, the workshop will also address key topics, such as the protection of the night sky and astrotourism, for the sake of local sustainable economic development.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Smart Office, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, and people interested in participating can register for free through the online form https://forms.office.com/e/ab8fYmwFxe

Miriam Perestelo emphasizes the importance of this meeting, which will feature leading figures in their respective fields as speakers. “This event will bring the people who participate in the work that is continually done on the Island to conserve and protect our sky, which is one of our most important natural heritage and which has great international recognition, in addition to be one of the main tourist attractions of La Palma”, defends the counselor.

The program will have the participation of Juan Bermejo, head of service of the Digital Transformation area of the Island Council of La Palma; Antonio González, Sodepal Astrotourism technician; Federico de la Paz, head of the Technical Sky Protection Office (OTPC); Antonia Varela Pérez, managing director of the Starlight Foundation, and Ana María García Suárez, CEO of the company AstroLaPalma SLU.

These are speakers who guarantee a broad and enriching day on the challenges and opportunities presented by the protection of the night sky, sustainable economic development on La Palma and astrotourism.

El Cabildo de La Palma, a través del proyecto La Palma Smart Island que impulsa la Consejería de Transformación Digital, organiza una jornada sobre la calidad del cielo nocturno y el astroturismo, coincidiendo con la celebración del 17 aniversario de la Declaración Starlight.

La consejera de Transformación Digital del Cabildo de La Palma, Miriam Perestelo, destaca que esta cita permitirá a las personas asistentes explorar el proyecto y conocer las herramientas instaladas en la Isla para medir la contaminación lumínica. Además, en el taller también se abordarán temas claves, como la protección del cielo nocturno y el astroturismo, en aras del desarrollo económico sostenible local.

El evento tendrá lugar el jueves 18 de abril, en horario de 9:00 a 14:00 horas, en la Oficina Smart, en Santa Cruz de La Palma, y las personas interesadas en participar podrán inscribirse de manera gratuita a través del formulario online https://forms.office.com/e/ab8fYmwFxe

Miriam Perestelo hace hincapié en la importancia que tiene este encuentro, que contará con figuras destacadas en sus respectivos campos como ponentes. “Esta jornada permitirá acercar a las personas que participen en ellas el trabajo que se hace continuamente en la Isla para conservar y proteger nuestro cielo, que es uno de nuestro patrimonio naturales más importantes y que cuenta con un gran reconocimiento a nivel internacional, además de ser uno de los principales atractivos turísticos de La Palma”, defiende la consejera.

El programa contará con la participación de Juan Bermejo, jefe de servicio del área de Transformación digital del Cabildo Insular de La Palma; Antonio González, técnico de Astroturismo de Sodepal; Federico de la Paz, jefe de la Oficina Técnica de Protección del Cielo (OTPC); Antonia Varela Pérez, directora gerente de la Fundación Starlight, y Ana María García Suárez, CEO de la empresa AstroLaPalma SLU.

Se trata de ponentes que garantizan una amplia y enriquecedora jornada sobre los desafíos y oportunidades que presenta la protección del cielo nocturno, el desarrollo económico sostenible en La Palma y el astroturismo.
